fogI open my eyes and sit up. I drift over to the bars of the cell door. It is raining; the drops are falling slowly, slowly, like snowflakes, like autumn leaves… when did I last feel the rain? I reach my hand out, between the bars; now my arm, my shoulder… I stand in the alley and look back into my cell. I didn’t notice myself getting any thinner… I turn and float down the alley. I don’t feel the rain. Instead, the shadows slide over me like water as I swim through the night air… I pass a pair of guards standing by the first gate. One is talking loudly, but I barely hear him.
